Cork Minor Hurlers 2026

Thanks for the report Corkonian. What kind of Cork selection was that? I recognise a lot of the North Cork names so I'm guessing it is a mix of North and maybe East?

Also, where are these competitions advertised? I didn't know they were on until I see clubs putting photos up online. It used to be all mapped out on the Irish Examiner one time.

Rebel Óg aren't really on top of communications and socials.

Very hard to find out what's going on with squads etc.

No wonder they don’t, we had one team yesterday from 14 thru to 16 competing a premium competition and they got hammered by Galway.
Yes 1.24 to 12 points from galway and then limerick beat the same team in plate final. And from.wat I can see we seem to be in the plate our shield finals in all grades from u14 to u16 our the secondary tournaments

To be fair and should be at least acknowledged, Cork Red u15s lost out on Arrabawn qualification a few weeks ago after extra time loss to Waterford and we were missing our best player

The u16 result is more concerning than the u15s ones at this stage. From my experience the u15 Cork teams are normally split evenly enough with no 1st and 2nd teams, whereas for these competitions other counties would have clear 1st and 2nd teams at that age. That makes it hard for Cork teams to compete in competitions at that age.
However I think that Cork u16 team that lost heavily to Galway would definitely be close to a 1st team with 3 of last years minors on it. Appreciate lads may be missing with injuries etc.
From what I've seen of them, they have good forwards but lacking real quality backs ( esp half back) certainly nobody like a Considine, Garde or Brosnan in the group. Hopefully they will come good next year.
A question though, if minor is changed at Congress in February, what will happen? Will this years u16s get 2 years at minor (i.e. minor staying u17 until 2028) or will last years minors get another go? Imagine it would be very late in terms of preparation for the latter to happen....

There was no even split this year, there was a clear 1st and 2nd team

Thats a different approach from other years and I think its a pity to be honest. Young lads can get easily downhearted if they know they are on a second team. Its better to mix it up. These u15 competitions dont matter a jot in the longer term.

With a proper coaching setup both teams although not split evenly should have been challenging, however Rebel Og chose their fabled coaching merry go round again.

I think it was just a random mix rather than a North/East selection because there are at least 3 players who started from the Muskerry division and apparently there were 3 of the Ballyhea/Milford players with the Cork Whites in Abbotstown.

They weren't advertised which is very poor of Rebel Og from a Cork point of view and I also remember them advertised on the Examiner. To think back in 2018/2019 every Cork development squad was up on their website and in 2026 nothing, I think it reflects the drop in standards regarding our underage. I just knew it from guys involved in local clubs as them clubs had players involved. I then saw different club websites wishing the best of luck to their players involved, some of them sites showed Cork Red as playing in Mallow so I phoned Mallow GAA on Friday night and was informed this wasn't the case, therefore it became likely that the Eugene Carey Cup was on in Kilworth.

Apparently there was around 65 players involved to select less than 50 players and when they lost to Waterford aet any decent level of teamwork and familiarity with each others play was missing against a very average Waterford team. So serious questions regarding who was selected and what went into the preparation yet no surprise when one considers who is in charge.

There wasn't any split in the U-14 teams in Waterford with Cork regional teams competing in the 2nd grade with North Cork winning out.
