Fire Safety In Cork Pubs.

Testament to just how seriously B. McCabe Esquire takes fire safety in his pubs, the iconic candles have been replaced with electronic ones.

They are sadly missed but fire safety is too important, given how prominent wood is in his establishments.

Great work Benny

🤔
1. I hate Estrella Galicia. It's like water with alcohol added.
2. I made no accusations against any pub. I only asked a few genuine questions.
3. How can I be barred if the owners don't know my face?
Why don't you join the remedial class with Omar and tout for your Hide Out afterwards!

Shots fired!

I'd say it would've adversely affected his insurance and might have led the Fire Officer to reduce the capacity of his hostelry(ies) had he not moved from lighted candles.

Used you work in Maudie Whelan's on NMS - or was there another pub called Maudie's back then? Great pool team and some great characters. Certainly didn't think it would've been a place where punters dabbled with coke.

Yeah Maud Whelan's.

This fella was a pain in the hole - anyone who pulled a pint in Cork from from around 1998 to 2005 will remember "Lanky Derek" or "Sarsaparilla" (a nickname that he tried to give himself).

He didn't last long in Maudies. He'd be carrying on like he was Jimmy White around the pool lads. Annoying them really.

The only thing that he had in common with The Whirlwind was that he'd be hoofing rails of chang up his hooter in the jacks and then come out talking at 90 miles an hour about "Picknstickontheblackyeahpicknstick!" or "EuropeanrulesinthishousebacktabletoFUUUUUUUUUCK!"

I'd say that I barred him from at least 4 pubs.

🤔
Has the eclipse got to you or what? I was asking about second doors for emergencies.
The intelligence level from the majority of replies that I've got today would remind one of a dunce class ffs!

Mange - to be fair and honest - Lee has you there.

You know fuck all about Doors.

I mean can you even name all 4 members?

Come on, baby - light my fire.
Girl, you know that - in case of emergency - please note that the know that the exits are here, here and here.
Try to set the night on FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRE!
Your nearest exit may be behind you.

I used know a few of the pool lads in there - Danny, Mick and a guy whose name escapes me used be the Secretary of Cork City Pool Organisation at one stage - lived over in the flats in Grattan Street. Through another life I regularly meet and have a pint with Paddy whose brother was with the pool guys as well. One of them was involved in Ford's as well I think on the Boreenamanna Rd. Happy days.

Just thinking how safe are they in the event of a fire breaking out when the pub is busy. How many, if any, have fire exits? Are they legally obliged to have them?

Oh, really Lee?

You dont necessarily require a second exit depending on the size of the pub and a few other factors. Most pubs would require more than one though

Can't say that I remember, Monny. There was a guy called William/Willie - very tall fella who was probably 10 years younger than most of the lads - a real wicked player but wouldn't go on the team.

There was a lad called Jim/Jimmy from Fair Hill that used to drink in there a fair bit. Lethal pool and snooker player - desperate alcoholic - but he would whip a lot of lads and used to play outrageous trick shots in the middle of games, not just to show a trick. Same fella used do pub quizzes on his own and win.

Isn't it a wonder that you're allowed smoke in some pubs despite the risk of fire.

I was at a lock in last week and the ashtrays came out the minute the doors were closed.

Does anyone know of pubs in Cork that have lock ins, and let you smoke?

Please post a list here. Sounds like a job for CrankY
