It's bizarre that you'd try to claim the criminal justice and legal system in Ireland has absolutely nothing to do with our Prison Service.

You are claiming that the Prison Service has nothing to do with the legal machinery of this state - Google, and most sentient beings I'd suggest - would think different.

But hey, you can pretend it's I'm wrong rather than you admit the System is flawed.

I have stated many many times that we should scrap criminal legal aid entirely and set up a public defender system. Employ solicitors directly and pay a salary rather than paying case by case. Much cheaper and more efficient.

I have pointed out many issues with our legal system over the years. Whether you choose not to recall these things because it doesn't suit your agenda to do so, or whether you're just too stupid to retain them, only you can know...

If people need to argue then would they please take it into the thread about crime, fire exits, the IRA or the death of a public figure?

This is a place of peace and harmony where various members of the board talk about getting the gawks in establishments long closed.

A Public Defender System rather than Free Legal Aid you say. And who exactly would fund such a Public Defender System other than Joe Taxpayer, who currently funds the FLA.

What kind of numbers and funding do you envisage such a PDS system to take to operate compared to FLA? Seems to me the net difference for society is that the scrotes would still get their legal aid for free, but now the tax payer is also on the hook to permanently employ legalistas in a Public Defender System with all the costs associated with it pension, insurance, sick pay etc. Not sure where you're getting that it would be "much cheaper".

Couldn't such a scheme end up costing the tax payer as much if not more, while the scrotes continue to get free legal aid albeit by another name?

Given what the Troika have said about the Irish legalistas, and of course the current carry on that the Minister is trying to clamp down on, is it really likely that this would be more financially cost-effective? Nice permanent and pensionable work for those who get the gig I suppose.

I merely pointed out that this thread is a like a Zen garden within the PRoC.
