The Father Ted scene.

My take on Father Ted:

Lads, there are 2 kinds of people on this planet:

The „g’wan, g’wan, you will, you will“ merchants and the people who despise them.

Dermot Morgan was a talented man and things like Scratch Saturday back in the day were avant-garde operations which have obvs. influenced a lot of Irish “entertainers” afterwards.

I remember some friends of mine (mainly girls) (mainly girls from rural backgrounds, mind) telling me it was the best show in the whole wide world and they would invite for indoor picnics and beers for us to watch these shows together in gay abandon.

I sat there with them as I was making moves on a good few of them during my formative years. Pert, firm young things, away from home, goosed and willing after 3 cheap gatts.

Maybe I smiled a couple of times but I don’t think I every laughed at this this show.

Most of the wit was fairly dumb and the stories were shite.

Anyway, the premise of this thread is weed out the mongs among us.

Vote now, or else.

There should be a "it was funny at the time, but it does not deserve the level of obsession that some have for it" option.

Poll fail.

It still is funny but slightly irrelevant now as the church are not the force that they once were. This came out around the time of/not long after the scandals that destroyed it so it definitely had a "Jesus Christ "(no pun intended)affect.

Still funnier than Mrs browns boys.

Thats a pretty low bar you're setting tbh.

I think its still hilarious anyway, yes, like you said, the church doesn't hold the same sway here any more, so as time goes on the jokes will become less funny to younger generations, but there's plenty in there to still laugh at.

I’m talking about the time it was fresh – forget today.

The time meself and Ann-Marie from Drogheda were the IT couple in Munich, cruising the streets in my Audi TT.

Now, Ann-Marie is married to a Spanish feen with 2 kids in Dublin, working 9 to 5 for an American multi and I’m cruising the streets in an Audi R8 with an Italian model sitting on my face.

Today, even Friends is mediocre – regardless of what sanders will tell you.

True that bar is set at professional limbo levels BUT it (and I can't explain why)keeps topping polls winning awards and making people laugh.
