Whether US and Israel recognise it or not it's still a wider PR problem for the IDF in general and Netenyahu particular if it comes to pass. The ICC doesn't hand out arrest warrants willy-nilly. People like UVL who as head of the EU at the start was giving Netenyahu carte blanche to behave as he saw fit now won't be so gung ho in backing him.
People won't be so easily dismissed as merely anti-Semitic for wanting an end to the butchery in Gaza, and there could be a far reaching investigation into claims made by Israel that don't seem to stand up to scrutiny about mass beheading of babies, when it's looking more and more likely that those who have killed babies on an industrial level is Israel

There's only so long that even the US PR machine can grind out claims that Israel is only defending itself against those who want to wipe them out. It's the IDF who're looking more and more like those who want to exterminate their neighbours.
