Battle of the Bands

Murphy's announces Battle of the Bands

Murphy's is offering one lucky band the chance for their big break with the all new Murphy's Battle of the Bands Competition! The Murphy's Battle of the Bands Competition will run for the duration of the month with the closing date for receipt of demo entries on Friday 7th May 2004.

A final eight bands will be selected by the panel of judges to battle it out to join the bill for the Murphy's UnCorked Festival this June Bank Holiday weekend and also win a two-day recording session at the Blue Monkey Studios in Rosscarbery. For those bands who think they could be the next big thing, entry forms can be downloaded from the Cork 96FM website and are also available in the shape of a CD Holder at postcard racks in local bars, cafes and restaurants. Bands should listen in to the Green Room on Cork 96FM for more details and to hear clips from the demos entered. The competition rules are simple - all bands members must be aged over eighteen, bands must be unsigned and must play original material only.

Jennifer Cashman Brand Manager, Murphy's, comments, "We are delighted to be involved in the Murphy's Battle of the Bands. We have an excellent panel of judges, including Ashley Keating of the Frank and Walters Band, Tony Burke of the Lee Delta Blues Club, "Steve Haze" and Michael Carr of Cork 96FM and Eric Coogan of Murphy's. Each of the eight finalists will be judged on their performance, professionalism, quality of their material and naturally that certain X-factor! There will be two heats on the 18th May at Bar Bucha and on the 26th May at Cruscin Lan, with four bands playing at each heat and the best two bands from each heat will go through to the final which will take place on the 1st June at Cypress Avenue at the Old Oak with the winner joining the bill for the Murphy's UnCorked Festival at the Spalpin Fanach on Saturday June 5th.
