CORK LEAD HURLING'S ROLE OF HONOUR
It started out in May and four months later, the 2005 Guinness All-Ireland hurling championship is heading for its 33rd - and final - game when defending champions, Cork take on Galway in Croke Park next Sunday. It promises to be a glorious finale to what has been a historic season when, for the first time, the championship included group qualification games.
This will be the 6th All-Ireland final clash between Cork and Galway, with the westerners yet to beat the Rebels. Their last clash was in 1990 when Cork staged a great recovery to smash the Tribesmen by 5-15 to 2-21.

1990: Cork 5-15 Galway 2-21
Galway led by 1-13 to 1-8 at half-time and by 1-17 to 1-10 after 44 minutes but Cork staged a remarkable recovery to out-score their rivals by 4-3 to 0-2 over the next twenty minutes to lead by 5-13 to 1-19. Two goals by John Fitzgibbon and one each by Mark Foley and Tomas Mulcahy shattered Galway and while they staged a late revival to cut the margin to three points, it wasn't enough to catch rampant Cork.
