VOLUNTEER AT THE FAIR

Launching The Lord Mayor of Cork's Volunteer Fair
9-11th April 2010, City Hall, Cork

As part of Cork Volunteer Week, The Lord Mayor, Cllr. Dara Murphy's, Volunteer Fair will take in the Concert Hall, City Hall, from Friday 9th April to Sunday 11th April. The aim of Volunteer Week, sponsored by Bord Gáis Energy and Cork City Council is to acknowledge the tremendous contribution of volunteers to our community and to facilitate voluntary and community groups in recruiting a new generation of volunteers.

Details on Fair opening times are as follows: -

Friday 9th April, 2010 7.00p.m.-9.00p.m.
Saturday 10th April, 2010 10.00a.m.-4.00p.m.
Sunday 11th April, 2010 10.00a.m.-4.00 p.m.

Admission to the Fair is open to the general public and admission to the event is free of charge. In excess of 180 voluntary and non-profit groups will participate in the exhibition and will have representatives on hand to provide information about their group and details on the potential volunteering commitment involved. Groups participating in the Fair includeGael Taca, The Garda Reserve, The Polish Community Centre, Dogs for the Disabled, Macra na Feirme, Cork Academy of Music, Kinsale Arts Week and many more.

We would encourage people of all ages to visit the Fair and would be especially delighted to see families at the event. Entertainment, including face-painting will be provided at the event as well as the opportunity to win a raffle prize. Many more exciting events will take place over the course of the Fair.

In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to 'Become Lord Mayor for a Minute' and have the momentous occasion captured in colour. In the setting of the Lord Mayor's Chambers, don the Lord Mayor's Robes and Chain of Office and get your photograph taken for charity. This initiative is facilitated by Cork Lions Club. A nominal fee is charged with the proceeds going to the Lord Mayor's Charity Fund.
