Demented Armed Kilkenny Fan Arrested

Armed Kilkenny Fan Arrested

As if the Gardaí hadn't enough on their plate, the fallout from another "war" in Croke Park spilt on to the streets of Dublin after Sunday's game. A Kilkenny fan was arrested by Gardaí in the early hours of Monday morning and his jeep was found to contain a firearm.

The 44-year old man had blocked traffic outside the Four Courts with his vehicle and was acting in a threatening manner.

The Kilkenny fan with a gun had to be 'talked down' by Gardaí at 4.10am

The fan may have been replicating Kilkenny's style of hurling by blocking all incoming traffic in a violent manner but like his heroes a few hours previous he was quickly talked down and carted away dejected.

Kilkenny's monumental collapse in Croke Park against Tipp has sent shockwaves through the county and stunned fans who believed in their team's invincibility.

The Tipp team that was crushed by Cork just a few months ago managed to overcome a Shefflin-less Kilkenny side in the All Ireland final.

Their intensity was remarkable and Cork must accept due credit in forcing Tipperary to up the ante during its June and July recovery period after being stunned in Pairc Úi Chaoimh by the Rebels.

The violence began with a Kilkenny defender throwing his hurley at Lar Corbett.

Kilkenny failed to out-do Cork's historic four-in-a-row and Christy Ring's record of eight All-Ireland medals remains intact as Henry Shefflin limped off early in the first half. No doubt this show of intensity by Tipp was at the root of the crazed Kilkenny man's actions.

From experience we know Kerry fans tend to lose the plot if Cork look like taking a season's spoils but it seems as though the Gardaí in Leinster could be busy dealing with the fallout of a medal less winter in Kilkenny too if this worrying incident is anything to go by.

Watch out for flying hurleys!
