Doing Us Foggy Style

Doing Us Foggy Style
By D.Hayes

Having successfully battled flood waters in November and freezing temperatures in December and January Mother Nature has kicked off her latest short-sighted attempt to blind-side weather hardy Corkonians by presenting us with thick fog.

Launching her bizarre weather spectacle for Leeside at the press conference at Mayfield bar the Fog 'n' Gill on Monday evening Mrs. Nature vaguely hinted that this unveiling of...er...a veil of fog over the city is her latest attempt to draw Corkonian's attention back to the work she does.

With local banter in the first half of 2009 dominated by the recession and ousting the Dublin government, weather talk had slipped down the agenda and Mother Nature has been feeling left out. This recent weather wackiness has got us talking about her once again but it seems there's no end in sight.

Refusing to entertain speculation of a heat wave in early March as compensation for the winter blues she has inflicted on the Rebel County, Mother Nature has confirmed that the foreseeable future will, like the economy, remain hazy.

"The only thing we are certain about", said a spokesman, undoubtedly leading wide-eyed journalists up a blind alley, "is that the path the weather will take next is unclear".

To be fair to Mother Nature this particular dose of weather doesn't have the bite or bark of the last two and there's little we can do about it. If the council didn't have a plan for the floods and the big freeze we should hardly expect one for this dose so let's leave sleeping fogs lie.

Looking back, it seems nobody these days has any long term vision. Let's hope things change soon - all eyes on the horizon.
