Cork is teeming with excellent new bands right now, and some of them are getting together with some of Cork's best known DJs for the first annual People's Republic of Cork Charity Gig in aid of Cork Simon Community.

The inaugural People's Republic Awards will also be handed out on the night for Best Busker, Best Barperson/Waiting Staff, Best Chips and Best Voluntary Worker.

Confirmed live acts for the gig taking place in Club One on Friday, 2nd December include:





The Red Sea Pedestrians
"an eclectic mix of progressive acoustic tunes, rock roots and uplifting funky melodies."

Death by Voltage
"Louder than Spinal Tap and with lyrical gifts comparable to those of Podge & Rodge, this band have to be seen, heard, and smelt, to be believed!"

Tone Control
"hard to define drum & bass, jazz and electronica") Elikia "Jazzy ethnobeats and delicious tunes"

 

DJ sets will be provided by Jim Plugd and the elusive Bellyman making a rare appearance in the city.

 


In recognition of some of Corks unsung(!) heroes we're looking for nominations for the Cork Awards Categories above to be sent to editor@peoplesrepublicofcork.c om with subject title "Cork Awards" by Friday 25th of November. Voting will take place online on peoplesrepublicofcork.com and through Red FM and the Cork Independant newspaper. The winners will be presented with their awards and the Freedom of the People's Republic onstage on the night.

Cork Simon Community operates projects at ten separate locations across Cork City, providing 103 beds in their emergency shelter, supported residential houses and independent-living apartments. Cork Simon Community continues to experience strong demand for the full range of homeless services that they currently offer, including the Day Centre and the Adult Homeless Medical Team.
