Get Your Flags Out For the Ladies

Despite the result last Sunday Cork maintains its hopes for the Ladies Football final this weekend. Cork take on The Dubs at Croker exactly seven days after the last foray on the hallowed turf and the game can be seen on TG4.

Some shops have unfortunately begun to take down their displays despite the old dolls' final still in the mix. Should the ball baiting beours bag the title again this year they'll have recorded an historic and incredible five-in-a-row.

On Saturday morning 11 red and white balls appeared in Dunnes' window.

We handed out 'Supporters Starter Packs' to most businesses on Patrick Street 10 days ago and the "cooperation" was certainly good with most stores applying the flags and bunting to their windows with many adding to their displays with additional colour.

THE DIFFERENCE IS WE'RE….not bothered
Despite their insistence that they are more Irish than the British chain stores, Dunnes Stores were left in the shade by their Patrick Street rivals.

PROC finds it strange that despite the tagline Dunnes failed to do anything of significance for our three gallant teams who reached their respective All-Ireland finals.

Surely, without wanting to draw partisan lines between other worthy sports, Dunnes in their loud trumpeting about being Irish would see fit to acknowledge traditional Irish sports - especially as Gaelic games are so insanely popular on Leeside.

The British brand names went to the effort of adding colour to theirs - Marks & Spencer, Tesco and most notably Debenhams all contributing solidly…the latter playing Cork songs on the outdoor tannoy for most of last week.

Admittedly on Saturday morning a few red and white footballs appears in the bottom of one of Dunnes' windows (see below) but surely a better effort could have been made?

One surprise was Boots pharmacy who told us in 2007 that they would not be able to get permission from head office to put a Cork flag in the window. To our pill dropping enjoy a flag appeared in the window with at least a week to spare to the men's final.

Like their nearby shoe store neighbours the girls at Zerep, our 2007 winners, made a great effort again this year but will it be enough to see them doing the two-in-a-row? A night out at the Kiln in Murphy's Brewery awaits the staff of the chosen venue.

Find out next Monday when we reveal the winner!
