What a shambles. It was the type of night you feel like tossing the remote control at the screen in frustration. There you were all week thinking about Germany 2006. Seeing all those fans who traveled out to balmy Cyprus to see the Boys in Green had hearts thumping and mouths watering in anticipation of qualification.

Of all the World Cups this one was going to be the easiest to travel to. Japan and Korea were miles outside the budget of even the most enthusiastic soccer fan unless you were willing to re-mortgage your home and sell your car, wife and children. For those of us without homes to re-mortgage or children to barter Germany was the great hope - a most convenient location with low cost flights and the ease of booking accommodation online. Even taking a car all the way to Germany isn't outside the realms of possibility '
