Pana Flags: Victory

Victory
Alan Ger

At 1400hrs today victory was declared in the battle to get Pana kitted out for the All Ireland final. The Cork footballers have battled hard all year, trained in shite conditions and played second fiddle to the hurlers. It was imperative that their successes be rewarded with the support of businesses in the city centre.

We focussed on Patrick Street but with the publicity we got in the national press and radio an impressive array of businesses, previously unmarked when it came to supporting our 'national side' of either code, got their flags out for the lads.

We would like to thank every business for their cooperation. Many store managers were extremely enthusiastic about getting on board. There were a few who dragged their heels too but we don't need to name them here. Take a walk up Pana and see the tiny minority for yourself. Big thumbs up to City Council too who have kindly agreed to cover the costs of the flags.

With the vast majority of stores on Patrick Street now decked out (60+) it is possibly the most colourful the street has been in years. Added to that, the brave actions last night of L Company ensured every bus shelter on the street is now decked out too so Pana truly is a tribute to the Rebels.
