Pothole of the Month - January 2006
Cove St.

Just cos Cork 2005 is over and the orange flags are rotting on Pana it doesn't mean top quality art showpieces like our Pothole of the Month Competition won't continue.

This month's exhibition takes place at the junction of Barracka and Cove Street (known to most people as "behind the F·s Building").

With depth, girth and inconvenience all getting ten out of ten there was no competition around the city this month for the title.

The positioning of the pothole is also perfectly inline with judges' recommendations for Pothole Excellence.

While this pothole may seem to be relatively 'out of the way' to the ignorant, most Corkonians will know that because Sullivan's Quay is one-way traffic (west) that Cove Street is a very convenient route east for those travelling down Barracka.

To add further traffic the very popular B-line Cab Company has its base on Cove Street and almost ALL its cabs arrive via Barracka and this junction.

All the traffic aside, as you will see in our judges' pictures this pothole is a real winner as it not only hammers the left hand side of each car that passes but it has also embedded itself in the path of pedestrians.

Mother's with buggies would need abseiling gear should they lose their offspring in the depths of this gorgeous 'mega-pothole' : atrue example of some of Cork's finest potholes.

Thanks to PROC users Comrades Ken White, Cormac McCarthy, Mike Flynn and Colman Dwyer who emailed us about this pothole. Keep them coming feens.
