Sam Maguire Festival :: Win Tickets

Sharon Shannon

The Sam Maguire Festival celebrates the man for whom Gaelic Football's famous All-Ireland trophy is named. Incorporating all that is good about West Cork this festival has everything for people looking to explore the sporting, cultural and historical aspects of our region.

The festival opens on Friday with a parade of the counties, where local school children will parade the colours of all the 32 counties through the town with the Sam Maguire Cup. The festival marquee hosts “The Micheál O’Muircheartaigh National Sports Commentator of the year Award” presented by Micheál O’Muircheartaigh and will be followed by musical entertainment with Liam O’ Connor featuring Lisa Aherne & dancers.

Saturday offers GAA activities, a trek of local landmarks including the Sam Maguire homestead, a street party extravaganza and live music in the marquee with Sharon Shannon & Mundy.

The closing day sees the town take on a 20s theme and an open air food fair is planned. Events will include cookery demonstrations, local crafts and various stalls. The festival will conclude with music and dance in the marquee with Declan Nerney.
