30 Volunteers in 30 Days

Big Brother Big Sister is launching a campaign to recruit volunteers, particularly male volunteers, in Cork city and county. Volunteer numbers start today at '0' but with your help we look forward to seeing that number grow closer to 30.

Sam is one of many young people in Cork on the waiting list to find a Big Brother!!

Sam is twelve years of age and is the eldest of a family of five. His dad passed away five years ago and since then Sam has been a great help to his mum in their home. Sam is big into sport, supporting the Cork GAA team and Munster rugby.

He also likes music and plans to learn how to play the guitar. He would like to be matched up with a big brother who is "a bit of a laugh and maybe interested in going to a football match or hanging out playing pool!!

What is BBBS?
BBBS is an internationally renowned proven youth mentoring programme that forms friendships between an adult volunteer and a young person, who will benefit from extra support. Each friendship is supported by a BBBS staff member.

Who are the young people involved?
Young people between the ages of 10-18 years who would like to develop a friendship with a volunteer and who will benefit from the additional support offered.

How does the programme work ?
Volunteers are matched with young people based on similar interests and complimentary personalities. They meet for 1-2 hours a week pursuing like- minded interests, the initial commitment is for one year.

What is required of Volunteers?
Share a hobby with a young person for 1-2 hours a week. The equivalent time to watching a soccer match or a movie !!

7.30 pm, 26th January 2010 and 7.30 pm 10th February 2010, at the Offices of Ogra Chorcaí, 20 Patrick's Hill, Cork City and hear from current Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
