Week of National Depression Declared After Cork Footballers Defeated by Clare
11th Apr 2023
Cork football fans will spend the next week staring into space whilst quietly whispering 'for fuck sake' over and over again, after Cork Senior Footballers were
knocked out of the Munster Championship by minnows Clare in Ennis on Sunday.
After several years of back-to-back “lows” including relegation to Division 3
there was a smidgen of hope for the county’s big ball fortunes as John Cleary’s
side managed to survive Division 2 having been promoted last season.
However, the Rebels were beaten by a single injury time point by a gallant Banner
side who are rumoured to have cobbled together a team of hungover lads in their
late forties early on Sunday morning.
While pundits have pointed to the fact that, unlike in the past, Cork are not
out of the championhip and are still guaranteed three more games in either the All
Ireland series or the Tailteann Cup, many football fans are fearful that the latest
low might be surpassed again should Cork have to play Leitrim or New York.
