London Classic Theatre’s hugely popular production of Abigail’s Party will return to the Everyman Palace Theatre for a second run in late February. This landmark play has embarked on national tour after a very successful run in late January. It will return for 6 shows giving Cork audiences a last chance to catch Mike Leigh’s ferocious social satire.

First produced in the Hampstead Theatre in 1977, Abigail’s Party was an instant hit and went on to attract 16 million viewers when a television adaptation aired as the BBC Play for Today. An astute commentary on the emerging British middle-class in the late 1970’s, the message in Abigail’s Party also hits home with contemporary Irish society.

In her suburban living room, Beverly prepares for the arrival of her guests. She and husband Laurence will play host to neighbours Angela, Tony and Sue. As the alcohol flows and the ‘nibbles’ are handed around, this ruthless, achingly funny examination of suburban life begins to bite...

This tour of Abigail’s Party marks the 30th anniversary of the original production.

London Classic Theatre is one of the most prolific and thriving touring companies in the UK and Ireland, having established a reputation for producing entertaining, accessible drama of the highest quality. Last year, London Classic Theatre staged the European Premiere of Nightfall by Joanna Murray Smith at the Everyman Palace Theatre.

Directed by Michael Cabot, the production is designed by Geraldine Bunzl with Lighting by Peter Foster.
