Win Tickets to Equus

Since its first production at the National Theatre in London in 1973, Peter Shaffer’s “Equus” has continued to be produced, to great acclaim, throughout the world: Daniel Radcliffe received a “Best Actor” award for his portrayal of Alan Strang in 2009 and that production also received two Tony Awards that same year. Now local audiences get an opportunity to see this modern masterpiece when London Classic Theatre’s touring production opens on Wednesday February 8th and runs until February 18th at the Everyman Palace Theatre, Cork.

Inspired by a true story, Peter Shaffer's unique psychological thriller explores the complex relationships between worship, myth and sexuality. In a Hampshire stable, a youth blinds six horses with a metal spike.

Convicted of this appalling crime, seventeen-year-old Alan Strang is sent to a secure psychiatric hospital. Martin Dysart, the child psychiatrist assigned to him, begins to probe Alan’s past in an attempt to understand his motives.

Initially the boy is silent and uncooperative, but as Dysart digs deeper, he begins to win Alan’s trust and the truth gradually emerges. Finally, as Alan struggles to be free of his demons, he must relive the events of that terrible night.

Directed by Michael Cabot, the cast includes Carole Dance, Steve Dineen, Aidan Downing, Malcolm James, Anna Kirke, Jamie Matthewman, Matthew Pattimore, and Helen Phillips.

London Classic Theatre has performed to over 300,000 people at more than 150 theatres and arts centres around the UK and Ireland. The company, led by founder and Artistic Director Michael Cabot, produces challenging, accessible drama including Joe Orton, Harold Pinter and Brian Friel and they are frequent visitors to the Everyman Palace.
