Wrestlemania Cancelled
27th Aug 2013
Wrestling fans are gutted at the fact that this year’s All-Ireland final will not double as Wrestlemania.
Cash strapped Irish WWE fans have, for the last few years, been unable to travel to the U.S. to attend the wrestling world’s showcase and have been attennding games involving Kilkenny and Tipperary instead to satisfy their love of wrestling.
With the certainty of a samba hurling All-Ireland final, played by two teams whose game plans focus on actually playing hurling, fans of the American sport are said to be “gutted” that they won’t be able to witness the impressive moves perfected by hurling-wrestlers in Croke Park since 2007.
Physically punishing techniques like body-slamming, choke holds, knock-downs and bear hugging have been part and parcel of All-Ireland final day for the last number of years and the advent of teams like Cork and Clare playing proper hurling is turning wrestling fans off.
“They are taking the physicality out of the game”, said one disgruntled fan, “you can’t even deliberately slap a hurley off a fella's head full force nowadays or get him in a choke hold. It’s a disgrace.”
