Phantoscope, Triskel’s experimental film screening event, presents a programme of timeless, seminal classics of underground cinema by Kenneth Anger. Anger is one of the most influential visionaries of not only experimental film but of cinema in general. His visually dazzling, witty and unsettling films take influence from the occult teachings of Aleister Crowley as well as cues from both high and popular culture to cast delirious cinematic spells that remain as bewitching today as when they were first made.
Following up on a highly successful screening of three of Anger’s films in January, Phantoscope brings Cork audiences five more gems from his Magick Lantern Cycle including the groundbreaking milestone of queer cinema Fireworks (1947) and the sumptuous masterpiece Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome (1954), a dreamlike evocation of magic and madness on a mythological plane. Historical, biblical, and mythical characters gather in the pleasure dome and become part of a visual feast of superimposed images, hallucinations, and decadence.
The films screening are:
Puce Moment (1949)
Eaux d’Artifice
